چکیده

N AUTOMATIC PIPETING DEVICE for measuring small samples of serum or other biologic fluids has been described (1). This type of pipet can be used to measure 0.1 to 0.2 ml. volumes of different samples accurately. It is self-cleaning and can be used repeatedly from sample to sample. Because of these desirable features it was applied to the manometric Van Slyke apparatus (2) for the measurement of CO2. Using this measuring device and the calibrations on the extraction chamber, the CO2 in 0.1 to 0.2 ml. of serum can be measured to ± 0.3 mMol per liter without the use of pipets. Furthermore, this modification increases the efficiency of the procedure.

A Rapid Procedure for Catalase Determination in Blood and Tissue Samples with the Van Slyke Manometric Apparatus.

A precise and rapid gasometric procedure is described for catalase determination in blood and tissue samples. The enzyme activity assay is performed with the Van Slyke manometric apparatus. In the developed technic, a 45-sec. reaction period is used, and a large liquid-gas interphase is provided with the purpose of preventing the oxygen diffusion from becoming a rate-limiting factor. Under the ...

Determination of carbonate in biologic solids.

THIS PAPER REPORTS A METHOD for determining carbonate in carbonate-containing solids by means of the Van Slyke-Neill manometric apparatus, which is widely used for the determination of carbon dioxide in biologic fluids. The method is rapid, convenient, and quantitative, and it makes possible the determination of carbonate in solids by the average clinical laboratory without the purchase of addi...

Determination of Free Amino Acids by Titra- Tion of the Carbon Dioxide Formed in the Reaction with Ninhydrin

In the present method the CO2 evolved by decarboxylating amino acids with ninhydrin is transferred to standard barium hydroxide and titrated. The conditions for making the ninhydrin reaction quantitative are those previously worked out for applicat, ion in the manometric method (6, 7). The transfer of the CO, to the barium hydroxide is done by a distillation in vacua which is completed in 2 to 3...

Manometric Determination of Hemoglobin by the Oxygen Capacity Method

Since Van Slyke (1) originally described a gasometric method for the determination of hemogIobin by analysis of the oxygen-combining power of blood, it has been the practice to saturate the blood with air at atmospheric pressure in a separate vessel and to transfer a sample of the aerated blood to the gas analyzing apparatus. A method is described here which requires less time, material, and ap...

Gasometric Determination of Oxalic Acid and Calcium, and Its Application to Serum Analysis.* by Donald

is the basis of most of the calcium methods current in biological chemistry, the amount of oxalate in precipitated calcium oxalate being determined by titrimetric measurement of the permanganate utilized. In this paper we present results showing that the oxalate can be determined with equal accuracy by measurement in the Van Slyke-Neil1 (1924) manometric apparatus, and that the gasometric proce...
